Save time, stress and admin struggles all in one sports club management app, 75 member Padel Club Zug explains how they use Spond daily
“Without Spond, it would be absolute chaos managing our Padel Club Zug.”
How a fast growing padel club in Zug, Switzerland keeps sessions full, organised, and manageable alongside day jobs using a sports club management app.
When Marco Rafael and Richard helped start their padel club in Zug, Switzerland, they wanted one thing: make it easy for people to play more often. But they don’t own courts. They rent time slots from a facility operator, so every session depends on tight planning, clear deadlines, and the right number of players.
Before Spond, they tried the usual tools. “We tried running it through WhatsApp and other tools,” Marco says. “It wasn’t built for this. Spond is the first platform that’s actually fit for purpose for our club.”
Today, the club has around 75 active members and a long waiting list. They run sessions across most weekdays and use the sports club management app, Spond to keep sign ups, communication, and payments under control.

A weekly routine they can actually run part time
For Richard, the difference is not just convenience. It’s whether the club is even possible to run alongside work. “If you were to guess… maybe I spend like eight hours a week,” he says. “And I would say it would probably have to double it without Spond.”
Marco agrees that doing this on the side would be unrealistic without a proper sports club management app. “Not possible. Simply not possible.”
That time pressure is exactly why their workflow matters. Richard checks Spond briefly every day to stay ahead of the next sessions. “I take a quick peek daily… to check for the next day. If there’s enough people signed up, that’s all fine. If not, then I take action.”
With fixed court allocations and a deadline for confirmation, Spond gives them a predictable way to fill sessions early and avoid last minute chaos.
“We have fixed time allocations. We create the events in Spond, invite the people. If they’re full, it’s fine.”

Waitlists and messages that keep sessions running
People get sick, plans change, and spots open up. Instead of endless chat threads, the club can quickly replace players and keep the court time used.
“If I get a message like ‘I’m sick, can someone replace me,’ then I check the wait list and contact someone. ‘This person is dropping out. Are you still available?’”
They also use event comments to share practical details so members can show up prepared even when no organiser is present.
“I’ll take a screenshot of the access code, which court it is, and send it as a comment to that event. That way the people that show up will know where to go.”
Groups that scale with the club
As memberships grew, a single big group was no longer enough. They needed structure by level so sessions stay fun and fair. “In the beginning we had just one big group,” Richard says. “Now we have one group where everyone is in and then we have other subgroups for the specific levels.”
That change helped them organise more activity all in one sports club management app without increasing admin work at the same rate. The club’s output has grown, even while the work stays manageable.
“We had way less activity before, probably less than half, and we probably spent the same amount of time, if not more.”

Keep payments traceable with a sports club management app
For weekly sessions, Spond also simplifies payments. They confirm attendance first, then send a payment request in Spond when the session is set. “When there’s enough people, then we send the payment request for that event.”
That approach keeps the club’s admin clean and makes it easy to track what’s been paid.
“You still have the historic list of all the events,” Richard says. “And when we collect the money, we have the history. We can see who has paid and not. That’s really great.”
It also gives them a simple flow from members to the facility operator.“Then we charge them through Spond,” Richard says, “and later on we distribute the money to the facility operator.”

“We couldn’t do this without a sports club management app”
Ask them what Spond has changed, and both come back to the same point: the club’s growth would not be sustainable without it.
“The things we do in Spond right now, we couldn’t even do with the system we had before,” Richard says. “It would be absolute chaos.”
And there’s no temptation to go back. “I would never want to go back,” he says. “It would be a nightmare.”
